Room 417, Thursday evening

It's becoming apparent to Jaye that she's not really getting out enough, save for that little side trip to the Sin the other day which was not for sex purposes thank you, but rather bothering-the-hookers purposes.

If she thinks too hard about that, she might end up putting in a call to Dr. Ron.

But she doesn't wanna, so she's hanging in her room with the door closed and actually reading her spam mail. She really should think too hard about that, because that's a sure sign she needs to get out.

"They're pretty scarce. But if you're willing to settle for a loaner, minus the beck and calling privileges, I'm all yours," he offered. "At least for a few days."

She looks down at him. "You're going to be my portable Jack for a few days?" she asks, grinning.

"Yup. If you want me," he confirmed, matching her grin. "I'm not pocket-sized - even Sam said she couldn't manage that - but my feet make me portable, and I'm all yours."

Jaye slides down to sit next to him on the floor. "I haven't said this today, but you rule all."

"Yeh, I kind of do," he laughed, reaching out to pull her into a hug. "So do you."

"And I swear I'm not usually whiny and emo," she promises. "See? I'm better already."

"Everyone gets to be human once in awhile, and you were never whiny and barely emo," he assured her. "And of course you're better! How could anyone be anything but thrilled when they have their very own portable Jack?"

"I know!" Jaye smiles. "Instant mood-helper. I'd say you should market yourself, but I'm feeling selfish."

"Be as selfish as you like, because it's a one-time only thing, just for you. I think Sam and Cedric might be less than pleased if I put myself on the open market." Leaning back on his hands, Jack looked at her expectantly. "Now that you have me, what are you going to do with me?"

A couple months ago, that would have been an easy question. Now Jaye thinks and says, "See, now all I can come up with is making you give me a piggy back ride or paint my nails or something. I've gotten uncreative, Jack. Emo robbed my of my brain."

"Emo robbed you of your brain?" he asked, laughing and shaking his head. "I had no idea that was possible. Okay, let me think." Jack furrowed his brow to show that, yes, he was thinking very hard. "This was much easier when becking and calling wasn't off the cards," he muttered. "You could paint my nails - I don't think I'd do a god job of it - or I could give you a backrub, or we could see if Candi's still interested? Or I could snag my TV, rustle us up a snack and we could laze around and trade life stories?"

"I like the TV, snack and lazing thing," she agrees. "Though now I think the painting-your-nails thing has to happen."

Jack grinned. "Sounds good to me, but you have to do toes and fingers, please, and pick a nice colour." He hopped up and said, "Give me, hmm, ten minutes, okay? And I'll be back."

She gives him a thumbs up and gets up to go pick a good color. In fact, she finds a couple colors. Shhh, she has fun.

It took Jack slightly longer than ten minutes. But it was worth the wait.

He had the TV in his arms with a half-pint of chocolate ice cream balanced on top of it, a jar of salsa balanced on top of that, a large bag of lime and chili corn chips clutched between the fingers of his left hand, and a bag of plain ones in the right. "Help?" he asked as he pushed Jaye's door open with his foot.

Because he's Jack, he actually gets more help than Jaye's usual trick of taking the ice cream and leaving them with the rest. She holds the door open, taking the stuff off the top at least because she doesn't want to risk him dropping the TV. "Wow, look who's prepared," she grins.

"Thank you," he said, gracing her with a warm smile. "Prepared to raid the common rooms, anyway. As far as I'm concerned, if it's in a common room, and it's doesn't have a name on it, it's fair game." He set the TV on Jaye's desk, and dropped the chips next to it. "But I might replace the ice cream."

"Ice cream is a total free-for-all," she says, shaking her head as she opens up the salsa. "It's one of the great laws of shared spaces. If it's not labeled, and in some parts of the world, if there aren't legal forms proving it's yours, you're allowed to swipe it and feel good about it."

"I don't know if I've ever told you this? But I love the way you think." Jack snagged the ice cream and pried the lid off, reaching into his back pocket to grab the spoons he'd also liberated from the common room. "Here," he said, digging out a spoonful and holding it out towards her. "It looks like the good stuff, too."

She tries it, making a little satisfied face. "We may need to write a thank you note. Or at least a 'Hey you, buy this kind again' note."

"Good plan. Except whoever's it is will probably buy the cheap kind next time, to keep it from being borrowed," he pointed out, trying the ice cream for himself. "Yup, gorgeous. Now, TV." He stuck the spoons in the ice cream and ducked under the desk to plug in the TV, arranging it so it could be seen from the bed. "There. TV, snacks, a comfy bed to laze around on, and did you find some good colours?"

"I don't have the best selection, but," she says, and retrieves the bottles she selected to show them off. "I'm even giving you a choice. Any preferences?"

Jack looked at them carefully, giving it the serious consideration that such an important choice deserved. Then grinned. "All three. Pink for my toes, and alternate the other two on my fingers. What do you think?"

"I think I like my portable Jack," she says, keeping all three bottles in her hand and grabbing the bag of lime chips and salsa. "I'm ready for lounging. You?"

"More than ready." Jack scooped up the other bag of chips, the ice cream, and the remote control. "Lead the way, Jaye," he said gesturing in the general direction of the bed.
