Room 417, Friday evening

After making a couple calls, Jaye totally leaves her room.

With the door wide open.

And just in case that's incentive for anyone to leave, she put a little box of JGOB pastries on one of the desks. Just to get them all the way into the room.

If anyone needs Jaye, she'll be hiding. No, you don't see her.

"A lot of it." He fiddled with his hands. "I didn't mean to yell at you. It's your life. You have to decide what to do and it's not always the easy choice to make."

Alanna blinked. "Um...uh..." She was a little lost for words.

"If you want to go back to him, there's nothing I can do about it." And he was doing so well.

Alanna gapped at Charlie for a minute before rolling her eyes. "Oh for crying out loud. What is it about being male and being so so so thick headed!" She asked the cieling.

"What?" he snapped back. "I'm *trying* to be supportive here. You have to go home. He's there, he's a prince and you already said you wanted to go back to him! What am I missing here?"

"The part where I don't want to go home!" Alanna snapped right back. "The part where I don't want to go home to him!" She paused. "You idiot."

"Then don't!" Charlie said, then smothered his face with his hands. "No," he corrected himself a moment later. He let his hands drop. "I meant what I said on the phone. The...good stuff," he clarified with a wave. "Forget I said the bad stuff. I did some pretty cool stuff before I came here. Impressive by anyone's standards back home. But here? All this? You? It's been better than any of it. All of it. That's tougher to give up than anything."

Alanna swallowed. Hard. "I can't, Charlie, I can't. I've worked my entire life for this, for ... making a name for myself, for being someone, for doing something. I can't abandon my kingdom, I swore an oath, and it's an oath I plan to uphold. I can't stay, I'm sorry. As much, as much as I hate to leave and the idea of leaving make me want to curl up and die, I can't. And it's not for him, or because of him. It's me, and what I can do back home."

"I know," he finally said. He pushed himself to his feet and put his hands on his hips. "I never should've...it was wrong. I know. You can't walk away any more than I could have when I was back home." Charlie let out a long breath and rubbed the back of his head. It was a nervous habit. "I guess it was easier to think you were running back to him. I could get mad at you for that. I can't get mad at you for wanting to do the right thing. There's nothing to fight there. I don't know what to do with something I can't fight."

Alanna laughed without any humor. "That makes two of us." She paused. "It was never him. I miss home, all of it. I, I wish I could have the best of both worlds. It's just never going to happen."

Alanna shook her head sadly. "I can't do that to you. It isn't your world. You belong there as much as I belong here. I can't ask you to do that for me."

"I can't ask that of you." Alanna repeated softly. "And...and I have to this on my own. To show that a girl can be a knight and independent and all that."

"Yeah." He stopped her from pacing by standing in her way. "I said a lot of bad stuff the past few days. I don't want to lose you. I don't want it to end, but if it has to, I don't want it to end like that."

Alanna stopped and wrapped her arms around herself and mutely nodded.

He stepped closer, but with enough space between them that she could move away if she still didn't want to be near him. "I love you. And that's a big thing for me, y'know? And the thought of you going and me never seeing you again? That doesn't work for me. It's killing me and I don't know how to handle that." He looked down. "You've gotta do your thing. But why does have to be forever? Who ever said it had to be forever?"

Alanna didn't move. "I ... I was trying ... I'm trying to work things out. To make it not forever. I...I love you too. And...and I don't want to say good-bye."

He moved closer again, placing his hands on her forearms. "I don't either. It's not goodbye if it's not forever. Maybe we can work something out. You gotta do your thing, I've gotta do mine. Maybe in a year things'll be different. Or two. Five. I don't care how long it takes. We have to go do our stuff, but if we promise we'll meet again. Then it's not goodbye."

Alanna nodded, mute again, and let her arms dangle. "Just a... see you later."

"Yeah. A long vacation." He slid his hands up her arms, not quite hugging her yet, but not wanting to let go of her. "Then we'll see each other again. I promise."

Alanna raised her own arms and completed the hug. "Yeah." A rather large part of her didn't really believe that. "A very odd vacation."

Somewhere else on the island, Sir Alianne ceased to exist. Alianne of Pirate's Swoop would have had a rather rude awakening, probably with plenty of creative swearing.

Her parents were clueless to the change. Right now, they were locked in a crazy girl's room, holding onto each other. The future wasn't certain. Neither of them knew how it was going to turn out. All they knew was that they had to promise each other they could work past this. Charlie was willing. He loved Alanna too much to give up, and he'd been stupid to think that he could just walk away forever.

But if it wasn't forever, then there was a chance.

He buried his face in her hair and hugged her tightly. "I'll come find you. I promise."

Alanna wrapped her arms around his neck. "I'll keep you to that, you know." She said, her voice more than a little muffled. "Ten year reunion, so kicking your ass if you're not there with me." She didn't sniff really. "And I'm sorry about what I said, the other day."

Charlie pulled back and reached up to brush some of Alanna's hair away from her eyes. "We were stupid."
