Room 417- The Hyperion- Monday night

This is Jaye. This is Jaye making phone calls. Yes, again.

When she's done (for now, at least), she gets up and goes to her dresser to grab the blank "Welcome to Hollywood!" postcard she'd gotten and hadn't managed to write on yet due to not having anything to say. And she still doesn't. What she ends up writing is

CALL ME!

with her phone number underneath, and then realizing she doesn't have an address for Jarod. So she writes "JAROD" on the address section, hopes the post office can figure out, and doesn't realize that might be a bad idea just in general.

"Hip hop?" Sometimes Sam was so very forty-one. "And what does being a player involve?"

"You are so young," Jaye sighs. "Have you not seen MTV? You're not sitting around watching Discovery all day, are you?"

"Uh...no. Of course not." She decided this was the right answer. "You're younger than me anyway! Besides, I'm usually in the garage."

"Tiny little TV! Bring it down with you! Catch a good bad talk show while you work!" she suggests.

"But I might miss something blowing up if I've got the TV on!"

"That's why things blow up on TV!"

"But I don't want them to blow up in my garage! I'd never get my down payment back.'

"Why do you have explosives in your garage anyway?"

"I don't. But I have a swoop bike and a motorcycle and the beginnings of a time ship, so there's always the possibility."

"Well... then just don't blow it up!" she says. "Time ship?"

"I wouldn't do it on purpose!" She said defensively, "Yes. Time ship. In theory, I'd use it to travel through time, but it's still experimental because I haven't figured out the math yet."

"You're building a time machine?" Jaye says. "A time machine? Can I go to like five years from now when you're done? You can just drop me off."

"You really don't want me to go into the reasons I can't do that, but it starts with a lack of reliable power source and ends with you creating a paradox that ends all life as we know it," Sam said, "plus, it's still not even close to finished."

"Okay, but when it is, we're having this conversation again," she says. "And so, Marty's been calling me from 1990-whatever and threatening to visit 8-year-old me. Will he blow everything up if he tries it?"

That sound Jaye might be hearing? Sam slamming her head into her kitchen cupboards. "It depends on whether or not you remember him visiting you, once he does it."

"I told him not to!" she protested. "Can you hear me? There's some noise on the line."

"Yes, I can hear you," she grumbled, leaning her head against the cupboards, "and when you talk to him again, tell him he'd kill Angela if he did that." She paused. "They are still together, right?"

"I think so?" Jaye says. "If not, he's probably up in a tree watching her through a window, so it'll have the same desired effect."

"Creepy, but I know what you mean. So, yeah. He harasses you, bad things happen to Angela." She added quickly, "Not that it's a threat. I love Angela and wouldn't kill her. It's physics."

"Well, yeah. Though disappearing like in that movie with the thing because of a time thingamawhoosit is kind of a unique way to go."

"You do know that can't really happen, right?" She considered, "Well, maybe it could, but it's really more of a demolecularization..."

If Jaye was so inspired, she probably had time to make herself some food, a drink, and finish her freshman year of college while Sam rambled.

Jaye's more prone to try interrupting with "I understand nothing you're saying, you know."

"Oh, that's okay," Sam told her cheerfully, "I'm used to explaining science to Jack O'Neill. Being ignored was a way of life. The phrase you're looking for is yadda yadda."

"Oh, so's along as you're okay with it, yadda yadda!"

Sam blew a raspberry at the phone. "You're just jealous I can bore people long distance and you have to resort to leaving entertaining messages on voicemail."
