Room 417, Wednesday night

Jaye's got some time to kill before she has to be anywhere, which is why she mentally set out to do laundry and disinfect the room that was probably all germy. However, she ends up looking online for homecoming dresses before getting distracted by a Misguided fic Mahandra linked her to.

Look, opening the door is the same as being disinfecty. Ask anyone.

"Someone else's money is always more fun to use," Alec agrees, grinning at her. "Why the sudden interest in dresses though?"

"Homecoming," she answers. "Yay fun."

"Homecoming." He thinks a long moment. "Sounds familiar. Enlighten me?"

"Right. Your first," she remembers. "So it's a yearly thing where everyone gets dressed up and goes to a big dance and people who used to go to the school come back to say hey. And there's usually a thing with football but I never paid attention and we don't have a football team, so we focus on the dance."

"Whoa. School tradition. And you're going?" Alec flops over on the bed, looking at Jaye sideways, curious.

"Yep," she says. "Last year was actually kind of fun, believe it or not. And if it sucks, that's what the Snark Corner is for. Why, you don't think you'd go?"

He shrugs, looking up at the ceiling thoughtfully. "I don't know. Not like I own a suit or anything."

"You should," she says. "You'd look good in a suit."

"Not all of us have other people's credit cards," he points out, and shifts again so his head his hanging over the edge of the bed, watching her upside-down. Alec grins. "And you think so?"

"Yeah, definitely. "Don't deprive of us that, Alec, that's just mean," she says. "I'd even force you to go shopping." Because she's caring like that.

"Okay, okay, I could get a suit, then show up and... what?" He gives her a look that's probably a lot harder to read from his position.

"And you hang out and charm the hell out everyone and snark on people who dress and/or dance bad," she says. "And you can invite someone to go with."

"So far this is a great plan," he says, crossing his arms and grinning. "So what about you? You invited anyone yet?"

"I... was kind of invited," Jaye admits. "Doesn't mean I can't hang out a little, though."

Alec blinks. "Who?"

"Eric Weiss. He's one of the new kids," she says, watching him.

Alec looks confused. "My Little Brother?"

"...He is?"

"Yeah, unless there's another Eric Weiss." Alec watches Jaye a moment. "Is this a dating thing?"

"It's a Jaye-is-taking-things-really-slow thing," she says honestly.

Alec grins, and maybe it's just the angle that makes it not as bright as it could be. "Least you've got someone to go with."

She shrugs. "Would have gone anyway. I emoed over going solo to prom, and then I think I spent more time hanging out with everyone other than the guy ended up going with," she says. The bottle she went with was another story. "...And I'm sure you could find someone to go with if you wanted to."

"Nah." He shrugs, smirking. "Solo sounds good, if I can get the clothes."

Jaye really isn't at all relieved by that. Really. "Seriously, if you need any help, let me know," she says.

"Hey, I've got decent dress sense," Alec says, as though it were being questioned. "But I'd like help, sure."
