Room 417, Wednesday night

Jaye's got some time to kill before she has to be anywhere, which is why she mentally set out to do laundry and disinfect the room that was probably all germy. However, she ends up looking online for homecoming dresses before getting distracted by a Misguided fic Mahandra linked her to.

Look, opening the door is the same as being disinfecty. Ask anyone.

Weiss knocked on the open door. "Hey. You busy?"

"Nope. Just wondering when people stopped deciding getting a beta reader was a good idea," she says, waving him in. "Hey."

"Some people are just natural creative geniuses hampered by the unfair restraints of grammar and logic," Weiss said, ambling in. "Hey."

"It's fanfiction.net," she says, thinking that explains everything.

"Right." Weiss has no idea. "That's a bad thing, right?"

"I have so much to teach you," she says, shaking her head. "Very bad thing. Like, top ten of the worst things, right up there with genocide and those disgusting leaf things they put on your plate at restaurants even if you didn't order a salad."

Weiss sits on the bed and grins. "I hate those. What are they trying to prove? I already ordered the double cheeseburger. I'm not going to look at the leafy thing and think, 'Hey, I've been so wrong in my eating habits. I should have some rabbit food.'"

"My sister said it was to cleanse the palette or something, but I have a feeling it's more about them not being able to sell the stuff in an actual meal." She has no idea why they're talking about this.

Neither does Weiss. "Definitely. It's a total offload of green leafy goods."

"I wonder if I could get Blair to stage a revolt somehow," she says. "I don't wanna, but I have no problem getting someone else to do it."

...And a little pause to make sure nothing tells her to do it... Good.

Feeling slightly less angry with the world, Alec dropped by to knock at the doorframe and loiter. "Anyone home?"

Jaye's a little surprised to see him, but totally not disappointed. "Nobody here but us chickens," she greets him. "Hi."

"So." Weiss decided to the thing where somebody's got something to talk about and they're not. "What's up? You said there was some stuff you wanted to talk about in your message."

"Yeah," she says, not wincing at all. She's very proud of herself for that. "So I wanted to get this all out there, in that I just got out of a thing? Like, just."

"Hi." He grins and ducks inside. "Whatcha up to?"

"Dress shopping and flaming thirteen-year-old fanfic writers," she answers. "I am obviously a very exciting person right now. How about you?"

"Okay." Weiss is between panicking and shrugging it off. The tug-of-war is not a pleasant one and it leaves him without words for a moment.

"You wear dresses?" Alec takes a seat on her bed, because it's about the only place to do so, and gives her a wide-eyed look. "And I actually know what flaming is, thank you computer class. Sounds like a fun way to spend an evening."

He shrugs. "Doing the classes thing, mostly. And bugging chickens who leave their doors open."

"As in, I thought it was over a couple weeks ago, but it wasn't, kind of, but it was, so it is as of last Tuesday or something, but we're still trying the friends thing so it's all new."

"I've got a skirt or eight in there," she says, nodding towards her closet. It's so sad that she'd let him check if he wanted. "Formal stuff makes me headdesk, but I can use someone else's credit card, so it's all good."

"Okay." Weiss's vocabulary is just great. "You're doing okay, though?"

"Yeah, great," she says. "Which is why I'm wanting to do the actual like, getting-to-know you thing before everything gets... everything, you know?"

"Someone else's money is always more fun to use," Alec agrees, grinning at her. "Why the sudden interest in dresses though?"

"Totally down with that. Absolutely. Getting to know you and the rest of the Rodgers and Hammerstein collection."
