Room 417, Monday night

Jaye's vegging, trolling through bad Vanessa Saturn fanfic and occasionally looking over at her laundry like she's expecting it to get up and do itself. It's Fandom. It might.


Jaye picks up, checking the caller ID first. "Hey there!"

"You spend too much time in Photoshop," Mahandra greets her.

"I do not," Jaye says. "I didn't even have to sharpen pictures."

"Liar. You did not go to another planet."

"I did so. I even bought you stuff."

"Are you sure you don't mean 'sold you a bridge'?"

"No. Seriously. That's a real library in there. I still have to show the pics to Rory," Jaye tells her.

"I'm totally looking through Google right now for these pictures."

"You should be glad I'm not dead. They wanted me to fly a spaceship."

"Are you on drugs?"

Jaye frowns. "Why does everyone always ask me that? No! I'm serious. I hung out, I shopped, I took pictures, I went to a bar with two hot Jedi, one of them being my first choice for a prom date."

Mahandra pauses. "That guy again?"

"Uh huh."

"Ooh."

"I know. So yes, I went to another planet and it was actually a lot of fun."

"I so don't believe you."

"You have photographic evidence!" Jaye reminds her.

"I have Photoshop!"

Jaye blows into the phone.

"What the hell was that?" Mahandra asks, sounding startled.

"Must be getting static. Talk to you later?"

"Sure," Mahandra says.

"Cool. Bye." And then she hangs up the phone.


She'll call back tomorrow and have a normal conversation, but right now she's just adding this to the list of things she's just not going to talk about with normal people. Seriously, it's getting to be a big list.

"Another week and I could have hung out with more of them," she pouts. "I would have made sure there was table dancing."

"Maybe you should try to stow away when Anakin goes," and Rory had gotten so good at repressing that she managed to stay fairly neutral when she said that. "Did you have fun?"

"Oh my god, way too much," she says. "Even if no one will ever believe I went. And oh! I took pictures of the library for you!"

"You did?" Rory squeaked. "Isn't it gorgeous? I can't read more than a really small handful of letters and the librarian was mean to me, but still."

Jaye minimizes the fanfic archives and opens up the file, turning it so Rory can see the pictures. "I talked to a bratty kid who went invisible."

"Invisible?" Rory asked, peering over her shoulder. "Oh, did he do that stupid thing with his hood? It's annoying."

"But I made him late for class, so I figure we're even," Jaye says, clicking through the pictures. "Mwahaha."

"How old was this kid?" Rory wondered.

"Almost thirteen," she answers, because for some reason she remembers that.

"So he's not even a Padawan yet," Rory mused. "Show-off."

Jaye pauses, thinking. "It took me a minute to remember what a padawan was. Show-off."

"I spend too much time with our resident Jedi, clearly," Rory said with a shrug. "Did the kid have the stupid hair yet?"

"Everyone kinda has stupid hair," she says honestly.

"It's their thing. I don't know why they go after the hair," Rory sighed. "It's very mean, and they're not even allowed to have like, product or anything to fix it."

"That's just cruel," Jaye says. "Maybe we should ship Angel over there to help them out with the product thing. No one would ever know."

"He'd have to explain why he can't go out in the sun, and they have lots of them there," Rory pointed out, grabbing Vladdie out of the air. "They might be all suspicious of him."

"Or notice the brood and think it's best not to ask questions," she counters.

"...have you met Anakin?"

Jaye starts to answer... "Okay, good point."

"Though maybe they'd just think he's stoic and all meditate-y. And you know, Angel's got that coat. He could totally work the robe. He'd be a good Jedi," she decided.

"Hm, product's kinda flammable. Would the lightsaber thingies be a problem with that?"

"Well, vamps themselves are flammable." Rory frowned. "But then again, most things are. I'll ask Anakin if there's a species that's fireproof, but I'm pretty sure it'd be problem if any of them got the lightsaber too close to their head."

"Okay, that's not a happy image," she says. "Now I want to give them all fake ones. Lightsabers, not heads."

"Maybe they need suits?" Rory suggested. "Big puffy fire-retardant suits. And maybe helmets."

"Ooh, yes! And maybe little bells to ring when they fall over and can't get up."
