Room 417, Wednesday morning

Jaye has nothing until sixth period. The animals stopped singing a while ago, but she's keeping the damn earplugs in and staying in bed with her head under the pillow and thinking "Yay sleep".

Cameron waits until third period before he finally does drop by Jaye's room to check on her. He just hopes he's not actually waking her up as he knocks on the door because that would completely defeat his purpose.

Jaye has earplugs in and her head under the pillow. She pulls her head out from under it, thinking she heard something maybe possibly, and says "Bzuh?"

He waits for a moment, then tries again maybe a tiny bit louder.

Ugh, people. She gets out of bed, pads to the door, opens it, and waves.

Cameron blinks, waves back and is relieved that she doesn't look like she's about to keel over. "Yo!"

Jaye waves again. Cuz she just woke up. And her first word today was "bzuh."

"How are you doing?" Cameron asks because apparently communication is still very much up to him.

"Thank you," she says, which is an answer, dammit.

"It helped?" He asks and he's still not sure what's going on exactly, but if he keeps standing there he gets the feeling he won't get anywhere. So he takes a step forward, puts a hand on her hip and kisses her forehead.

"Yay."

And then thinks to take out the earplugs. "Wait, what?"

He rolls his eyes and briefly touches his forehead to hers. "I'll take that as a yes."

"Okay," she says, because she has no idea what she accidentally just said yes to. "Hi."

"Yo," he smiles and strokes her hair back from her temple. "Feeling better?" He asks again, because apparently she didn't hear him the first time.

She both nods and shrugs. And then shakes her head. And nods again. "I'm not awake," she explains.

Damn. "Sorry," he sighs and turns her around, steering her back towards the bed.

"Yay sleep," says Jaye, really damn cheerfully for not being awake. And totally gets back into bed and curls up.

Cameron fusses with the blankets for a moment. He wants to ask her what's going on, but getting a straight answer out of her lately doesn't seem to working. So he lets it be. "Sorry that I woke you," he repeats as he's kneeling beside the bed.

"'Sokay," she says, getting more comfortable and closing her eyes, and nothing's singing to her.

He watches her for a moment and he's really not getting this right now. Sighing, he briefly reaches out to touch her forehead, just to make sure she doesn't have a fever or anything like that. Nope.

"Call me if you need anything," he tells her and straightens up to leave.

"'Kay, thanks, bye," she says, already half gone.

"Yeah," he mumbles and quietly slips out of the room.
