fates_jaye: (more phone calls)

Office hours- Friday

Today Jaye made a grave mistake.

Today Jaye told her family where she'd ended up. No, she hadn't before now, are you kidding? If it were really up to her she wouldn't even give them her phone number. No, not really.

Every once in a while she'd hold the phone away from her ear when she got tired of listening, and anyone who stopped in or maybe even passed by could hear Sharon's voice saying things like, "That place turned you into a crazy person," and "It's nothing but all Democrats, all the time!" or "If you call me again pretending you're three like that one time, so help me-"

"That looks like fun," Rory commented from the doorway, one eyebrow raised. She'd worked from home this morning, since she still could, and while Juliet had insisted on turning the couch into a pirate ship, she'd otherwise escaped unscathed and decided to spend her afternoon with a grownup.

That word was being used a bit subjectively, it turned out.

"Hi!" Rory replied, giggling. "Isn't she going to call you back, now? It's an endless cycle."

"What nothing?" Rory asked easily, totally heading to sit in a chair now. Invitations were for other people. Besides, she was pregnant. If she had to have this stupid baby bump, she got to sit down all the time, thank you. "So not only did you outrun the cloud or get restored or whatever, but you're now Miss Fancy Teacher Lady. This, frankly, is kinda bizarre, I gotta say."

"Radio I can deal with, 'cause it's always been sort of crazy anyway." Pause. "No offense."

"You're like, an authority figure," Rory said, with some grudgingly admitted awe. "You can give people detention. Oh my god, have you, yet?"

"But then you might have to run it yourself," Rory noted thoughtfully. "And that means giving up a Saturday."

"You could make them put on a play," Rory suggested. "Then it's like a movie anyway. And you can throw popcorn at them."

Rory's mean streak didn't really have an outlet anymore. You couldn't tell your two year-old her story sucked, for instance.

"I've been told this," Rory said, grinning as she tapped her chin. "So pick three kids this week or whatever and then make up a play for them. Or! Or, make them write the play."

"Matt sounds like an enterprising young student. I'm sure he'd be happy to."

Rory, stop.

"You should make sure there's an armadillo or an unhappy clown in it," Rory said wisely. "People love dressing up."

"This sounds educational, too," Rory said with a nod. "I mean, everyone will clearly learn from this. Especially about clowns."
