ooc: info post yay!
Hello again! While Jaye isn't exactly new, she was around more a whiiile back and there's some stuff that might take explaining for the newer people, therefore, infopost.
i wonder why the wonderfalls on me...
Wonderfalls was a show on Fox from Bryan Fuller (who also did Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies) that ran in 2004 for four of its thirteen episodes. Because Fox sucks and basically it got the Firefly treatment, with episodes being run out of order and not being advertised, and ugh. UGH, FOX. It focused on 24-year-old Jaye Tyler, who was overeducated and unemployable, and totally fine with that. She was working at a gift shop in her hometown of Niagara Falls and living in a trailer park, living to disappoint her family just because she could.
And then one day she got passed over for a promotion, nearly choked to death on a sandwich, and all of a sudden, inanimate animals started talking to her and telling her to do things. If she obeyed, it'd cause good things to happen for the people she was being told to help. If she ignored them, bad things would happen. So Jaye basically started doing good deeds because she was good and forced to, and if people thought she was crazy, well... there was a really good chance of that.
jaye and how she fits in fandom
This is the same version of Jaye who was here before. Yes, I am the reigning queen of bringing back characters. She was here waaaaaay back at the beginning of the game, when we did things without needing them to make any sense, and so Jaye started here as a junior who already had the animals talking to her. She graduated in 2007, went on to LA to work with Angel and Logan for a while, then went to Brown University, where she graduated before moving back home.
Jaye is not a nice person. She can be bitchy, she has no real filter, and she doesn't so much worry about pissing people off. She even gives people (usually bad) nicknames rather than calling them by their real names. However, she doesn't have much of a problem with people in Fandom, and can be easy to get along with. ...If she likes you, anyway. If she doesn't, she'll be a snarky little brat. She's also extremely lazy and a slacker by choice (see also: her class) and won't do any more work than she has to. She will be taking over the radio, though, because she actually likes that.
And she may or may not be crazy, yeah. The animals might be real, they might not. Canon never got a chance to give a solid answer. We don't know if they're real, if they're some message from god or maybe the devil, or if Jaye's just out of her mind. I have never decided on what they are. I say, keep it ambiguous.
She also just might be crazy regardless of the talking animals thing, who knows.
so about these animals...
They are inanimate animals that talk to Jaye. Your pet dog won't say a single word to her, but your stuffed rhino might. Mascots on cereal boxes, displays at the zoo, the kitten on the "Hang in there, baby", they'll all give her extremely vague messages to tell her to do something. You cannot see or hear the animals. You can react to Jaye reacting to them, though. She'll all-out yell at something that talks to her at times, or act suspiciously, or she'll talk back to the smoosh-faced wax lion she keeps in her purse. Most people in Fandom just never really asked about it, so if you wtf at her, she'll likely think you're the crazy one.
Also, the animals are modded only by me. I'm totally willing to let people play with this little plot device, and if you want Jaye to help your character out in some way, I am so up for it. I'll just control the animals from my end. And my only restriction is that whatever the animals tell Jaye to do, it has to end in something good. That's just how canon works.
