fates_jayeJaye was not at her parents' Thanksgiving this year. No, she was at her parents' friends' Thanksgiving this year, which for all she could gather had been arranged solely to hook Sharon up with their oldest son. Which 1) NO, and 2) he was spending more time leering at Jaye, which she hadn't signed on for.
Sometime between football and dinner, Jaye headed outside to escape, only to find Sharon chain-smoking on the front porch. "Fancy meeting you here," she said, closing the door behind her.
"Oh, shut up, there is not enough nicotine in the world to calm me down, but dammit, I am trying," Sharon snapped.
"At least he doesn't like you," Jaye pointed out, shoving her gloved hands into her pockets.
"And don't think that isn't a kick in the face."
"Did I miss something. Aren't you still a lesbian?"
"I'm a successful, well-educated- and I'm gonna say it- good-looking woman, gross as it would be for him to actually like me, he should anyway," Sharon insisted.
"I'm plotting on how to spill wine on him anytime he comes over to talk to me," Jaye shared.
Sharon laughed bitterly. "You know there's no alcohol, right? Mr. Peterson is on the wagon. We're having ourselves a dry Thanksgiving."
Jaye stared at her. "No."
"Yes."
"No!"
"Yes."
"No!"
"Yes times infinity!" Sharon said. "You're going to have to rely on your charm and wit to make him go away, which let's face it, you should be rid of him within about five minutes just being yourself."
Jaye glared, but turned her frown onto the street for a minute before asking, "Think any liquor stores are open today?"
Sharon was just as silent for a moment, then said, "I'm smoking in the car."
"I don't care," Jaye agreed.
Cigarette still lit, Sharon started quickly down the steps to the driveway. "Move it, before they catch us!"
