Room 417, early Saturday morning

So last night was as much of a disaster as it could be without punches being thrown. If Sharon had had another two minutes without a cigarette, said punches may have actually happened. But thanks to the damn hotel, Sharon now had to stay in the dorm room with Jaye and Rose.

And she snored.

Loudly.

Finally tiring of it, Jaye got out of bed, kicking her sister onto her side.

Sharon struggles to sit up and stretches widely. "Thanks, Ms. Freud, but I prefer to keep my bizarre travel dreams to myself."

Jaye laughs. "You're traveling with the chicken now. Some days I worry about you."

She looks at the alarm. "Ugh. You're going to have to meet my teachers."

"Yes, I suppose we'd better get that out of the way. How have you been doing in your classes? Are you staying out of trouble?" Sharon frowns for a moment and then says tentatively, "Making...friends?"

"I'm doing okay. Don't look shocked," she says, sitting up again. "I haven't done anything bad yet, and amazingly, I have something resembling a social life. Now you can look shocked."

Sharon looks appropriately shocked. "You mean you haven't been holed up in your room listening to Radiohead and bitching about how much you hate the world?"

"No. Though there is a club for that. The other delinquents and I get along."

"I thought you said you weren't a delinquent?" Sharon gets up and rummages through her bag for a change of clothes. "Where's the shower?"

Jaye points to the door opposite the closet.

"Delinquents lie all the time," she says seriously. "Fallacy is one of the things that make us bad seeds."

Sharon sighs. "Right, how could I forget? I'm going to shower, and then I suppose we'd better get this meeting your teachers thing over with." Sharon gives a delicate shudder and disappears into the bathroom, silently blessing the gods for making sure she didn't have to use a communal shower.

Jaye debates waiting for the shower, or going next door and asking to use theirs, but going around school with both Sharon and unwashed hair is too good to pass up. She throws on clothes, throws said unwashed hair into a ponytail, and waits.

"You're slow!" she yells, not even sure if Sharon can hear her.

The water pressure is dismal, and the water isn't more than lukewarm. Well, what did she expect out of a dorm, anyway?

When Jaye shouts through the door at her, Sharon yells back, "Proper hygiene takes TIME!"

"Like anyone cares what you SMELL LIKE."

Tick, Tick.

"Oh, shut up, you," Jaye tells the monkey.

Sharon wrenched open the bathroom door and her head appeared in a cloud of steam, a towel wrapped around her hair. "Gross," she commented mildly, and slammed the door again to get dressed.

Jaye turns to the monkey. "I think she just said she smells gross," she says. "I definitely agree, don't you?"

Jaye pats it on the head.

Sharon finishes dressing and emerges once again. She takes one look at Jaye and says, "So we're going for homeless chic today?

Well, it's your life. Lead on, Macduff."

"Ha ha," Jaye says, putting on her shoes.

Tick, Tick.

[fates_jaye]

"I heard you the first time," Jaye grumbles to it. "Tick. Right."

She looks at Sharon. "How'd you like to meet a big blue guy who speaks in metaphor?"
