It's later in the afernoon when Jaye waits again at the front of her house for a parent. This time, at least, her mom's there with her, waiting by the car. Karen isn't saying anything, but still, she's there.
When Darrin pulls up in his car, he's a little rushed. "Sorry I'm late!" he says.
"Where were you? We're going to be late for Jaye's bus," Karen says.
"I know, I know, I just had to do something first," he says.
"Oh?"
He shrugs a little. "I looked up what cab company dropped Jaye off the other night and went to report the driver."
Jaye's eyes go really wide, and she doesn't have an animal to glare at immediately. Maybe she'd gotten the psycho fired or something. Maybe he had like forty kids or something and he was now going to have to be homeless... "Did you talk to the guy?" she asks meekly.
"He got a little upset when he came by and heard himself being reported," Darrin says slowly.
Karen looks worried and asks, "Did he... accost you?"
"Only a little," he shrugs.
"Are you sure it was the right guy?" Jaye asks. "The guy with the thing?" She makes a gesture as to where the thing had been.
"The mole?" Darrin says. "Yes. In fact, I suggested he see a doctor. That sort of thing could be cancerous. He should get it checked out."
"...Huh."
"Anyway, are you ready, sweetheart?" he asks.
"Yeah," she says, handing him her bag to throw in the car so she and Karen can get in. And Jaye can go back to where things are a little saner.
