Room 417, Sunday afternoon
May. 21st, 2006 12:54 pmJaye picks up the phone.
"Hey," Mahandra greets her.
"You're too far away for an air hug, so I'm sending off a phone hug," Jaye greets her back.
Mahandra pauses. "Um. What?"
"I've been made wanting to hug my BFF," she explain.
"Awww," she says. "That's nice. Weird, but nice. So how goes it in the land of weird?"
"It's fun," answers Jaye, sprawling onto her bed. "Traumatized a teacher."
"And on your summer vacation, too. How productive!" Mahandra says. "What the hell."
Jaye almost giggles, because the last time she heard Mahandra say that, she was wee. And teaching it to everyone else in school. "I almost feel bad for her."
"Oh my god."
"I said almost. Oh, hey. If you're going to call, not that you ever do-"
"Hey."
"-call my cell, because we're moving to cabins for a week. Unfortunately just a week."
"Cabins?"
"Summer camp."
"But you already have dorms."
"SH, OKAY, I AM ROOMING WITH HOT GUYS."
Mahandra pauses. "Now you have to elaboratinate."
Jaye raises her eyebrows.
"Forget I said that."
"Make me."
"Bitch."
"Yuh huh. I'm in with Alec-"
"Guy you hooked up with," Mahandra recalls.
"Yeah, and Dean who looks like him. Okay, he's cute, shut up."
"Hussy."
"No no no. Just talking. I've dated two guys and had one random hookup, no hussiness."
"Don't care."
"Bite me. And then there's his brother Cute Sam."
"His name's Cute Sam?"
"Is now."
"You're the only girl?"
"Shhhh. On the other side there's D'Anna and Pretty Sam, and Cedric who is British-"
"Ooh."
"Cute, too."
"Ooh."
"And Jack. Okay, in retrospect, the first thing I said to him should not have been 'dirty'. At least he doesn't have a doppleganger."
Mahandra pauses. "What?"
"I keep hooking up with guys who have a doppleganger. Archie looks like Lee, Cam looks like John, Alec looks like Dean. It's a little disturbing."
"You need help."
"Do not."
"I will so call Dr. Ron for you."
"I'm taking away your phone hug," Jaye tells her.
"So you get to spend your summer flirting with boys," Mahandra summarizes.
"I'm planning on spending it being lazy and meeting the occasional new person. The rest is just a bonus. Well, and messing with King Dork."
Mahandra doesn't even question who King Dork is. "I'm still moving in with you."
"Do it," Jaye challenges. "My roommate graduated. I have a whole big double all to myself."
"I'll make arrangements," she says, though Jaye knows it's not going to happen. "It's boring here, Jaye."
"Sorry..." And she is.
"We need snark dates."
"I don't know what my TV watching schedule will be like for a while, but we should watch soap operas together when I do."
"Oh, you'd better call me for that."
"I will."
"I have to get going," Mahandra says. "Call me when you venture into the trampy place again?"
"Will do," says Jaye. "Later."
"Bye."
[Door, btw, totally open. Well, actually, it's closed, but metaphorically, it is open.]
