Everyone here had taken classes with Liliana before and so no one ought to be surprised when the lecture began barely after the bell had stopped ringing.

"Dominaria," she began, once more half-perched on her desk, since this was another 'less-lecture-more-rant' class, "is a portmanteau of the words 'Dominia' and 'aria,' meaning 'Song of Dominia.' In incredibly ancient times, both the plane and the greater Multiverse were called Dominia, but presumably, that got confusing rather quickly. People tried tacking on 'Prime' when speaking of the plane itself, but it turns out that referring to Dominia and Dominia Prime wasn't much clearer than before. Eventually, at some point in antiquity, the devs realized that was confusing and also dumb the name was changed to Dominaria. At least two groups claim credit for coining the name, an elder dragon by the name of Nicol Bolas--" no, you weren't imagining Liliana's frown when she mentioned that name, "--and the Numena, a group of wizards that rose up and slew the Primevals. I'll get to them later, don't worry."

Because if she didn't explain the Numena, she couldn't explain Korona, and if she didn't explain Korona, she couldn't explain the time rifts, and if she didn't explain the time rifts, she couldn't tell them about the other other time Dominaria was nearly destroyed!

...That happened a lot, yes. )

A story for next week.

Good morning, it’s Wednesday and it’s summer so please avoid Anakin if at all possible. Stay indoors. It’s better that way.

*chittering*

Yes, I might stay here all day. Just in case. So let me have the news from yesterday so I’ve something to talk about for a few minutes at least.

Classes have begun again at the school. To start the day there was Book Club which was held at the bakery with snacks and possibly no books at all. Yennefer was back to teach Coping with the Non-Modern World though she seemed perhaps a bit surprised about it? And then there was Sam Eagle with Sam Eagle Presents: Weird or Not Weird? and he tried to make his students explain that they were not weird. All right.

Nothing from the dorms but a couple from the town. Sairis was in Liliana’s shop being suspicious of the chair. Fair. Do we know that the chair did not eat Dean?

And finally, at Caritas, everything was lemons. Not literally. I think. Just a lot of lemon drinks. I think.

Stay away from the park!

Yeah, Arden had seen the weird scaffolding over Selkie Cove on her way to the library this morning and had absolutely gone out of her way to avoid that whole area. It was Wednesday and she'd been on the island longer than twenty minutes. No thank you.

Though, once she'd gotten in, she had to admit she was at least a little curious about what the heck required scaffolding that high, so she started texting people who might have gone to investigate to see if any of them would let her know what was going on.

Sounded like the gremlins had a pretty brisk betting pool about it, too.

Anakin was getting wily.

Realizing that people might've learned to avoid the park on Wednesdays, he'd set up his ambush silent cry for help team building exercise by Serenity Cove instead.

It was very normal to have built a scaffold to hold a 40 foot long, very gross-looking wooden pole dangling twenty feet up over Serenity Cove over the last several weeks, right?

Even if it was twenty feet up?

"I am Anakin Skywalker," Anakin called from the top of scaffolding through his unnecessary megaphone in a manner not dissimilar to a person yelling on a street corner. "Many thanks to our local bars and restaurants for once again providing the lard, grease, fish guts, Crisco and bacon fat to really lube this thing up. The rules are simple," Anakin said. "Whoever gets across the pole and reaches the red flag at the end wins all you can eat at Mooby Burger for a week!" Whether Mooby Burger was a good prize or not was entirely up to the winners. "You may walk, run, or slide your way across, but you may not use supernatural powers."

"And thank you in advance for volunteering!"

Which was news to those volunteers.

"And you also get a free t-shirt!" A surprisingly inoffensive shirt, since Anakin didn't see the point in wasting the good ones on an event where the shirts would be immediately destroyed.

He began pointed out people as they walked past: "McGarrett, Hannibal, new kid, Rogers, Kitty, Sairis, Remy, Lydia--" he paused. "--there are water wings as well."

Sorry about the dress, Lydia. "--Rey, Eramus, Henry, Flint, Mariner, Jonathan, annnd Vi."

"Get on up here."

Sairis had been working on some more advanced charms lately, and had left them in a corner of the back room. He was excited to see how they were coming along.

Which was...missing. What? He was sure Liliana wouldn't have moved them without leaving him a note, probably about why where he'd left them was a bad idea and instructions on choosing a better place. And as far as he knew, nobody else came in here. (And he'd left them out of the reach of the chair. Unless it sprouted long arms?)

So apparently he'd be spending today looking for wherever they went to.

And side-eyeing the chair, just in case.

Some of you probably recognized the large blue felt eagle standing at the front of the classroom. Others might be surprised to see him. Sam didn't care if you were surprised. Sam only cared about educating the youth about weirdness.

“Good morning students!” He said, looking around the room with an eye for oddities.
“I am your professor, Sam Eagle, back on this island to further your education about weirdness. Since you are here I assume you are already acquainted with the concept. However, just in case, we shall have a refresher today!”

“Now. I would like you all to introduce yourselves and tell me if you find yourselves to be weird or not weird. I, of course, am Not Weird.” You could really hear those capital letters when the Muppet spoke.

“But first. This island is extremely weird! Beware! I hope to be able to help you avoid some weirdness during our time together but it is impossible to avoid all weirdness on this island. Weird is everywhere. At all times. Lurking. Waiting to strike. Hiding in plain sight and sometimes not bothering to hide at all.”

“Now. Introduce yourselves!”

Today, class was being held in J,GoB. Was this nearly entirely due to the fact it was literally next door to Aphra's house? Yes. (Also the scones.)

There was a table set up with various comfy looking chairs around it (Isabela had already bagsed the comfiest one) as well as platters of various baked goods on thee table itself. Off to one side there was a table absolutely stacked with paperbacks with exceedingly lurid covers.

"Welcome," Aphra called out cheerfully around a mouthful of scone, like the class act she was. "Take a seat."

"This is going to be a more more causal class than some," Isabela added, because both of them were noted for their academically rigours classes, after all. "It's all about the joy of curling up with a good book and then sharing your thoughts with your friends. Especially when it actually turns out to be an absolutely terrible one."

"Since this is our first class, we figured we'll just be doing the first half of that today, grab a couple of things that look interesting, have some snacks, get to know each other, then next week we get to find out if you made good choices."

If you were in this class, you probably had already made some bad ones.

Yennefer sailed into the room in a swirl of black skirts and said, "Right. Listen up. I am Yennefer of Vengerberg, and this is--sweet Melitele, what is this? 'Coping with the Non-Modern World.' Right. I am going to assume that none of you are from the present, or a world that mostly resembles the one we currently find ourselves in. If you are, and you're planning to move to some hellhole without indoor plumbing in the future: don't. Problem solved.

"First we're going to do introductions, so I know what I'm dealing with," and so she didn't actually have to teach anything for as long as possible. "I am Yennefer of Vengerberg. I hail from the Continent, which is not Europe but what we call the one continent of my world. We're a very creative folk. My homeworld is stuck in, I would say, roughly your Earth Middle Ages, with magic. It's dirty, it's brutal, they've never heard of a vaccine and they're very racist against elves. Apple juice is a luxury good and no one has ever heard of chocolate. It's horrid. I currently live in France. But perhaps 'simply don't go back there' is not an option for you. Perhaps you like your family or something." Couldn't relate. "I don't know. Tell me about it."

What up, island? It's me, ya girl Arden Finch welcoming you back for the first summer session. School started off with Try Not To Die, which went to Madagascar to run through a bunch of obstacles, with a congratulations to Rey for winning! Next up was Various Beach Things where we got to lounge on the beach to our heart's content. Loved it. And lastly Let's Eat! went to a ramen restaurant, much to Mr. Amicitia's excitement.

Then--

*noise makers, vuvuzelas, and recorded cheering*

Ah. From all the excitement, looks like we've got a note from the Dorms! I now have confetti in my hair and the porg is doing cartwheels. Sairis was cooking eggs in the second floor common room, which drew a curious Henry and Mutt.

Over to Town, Caleb was blessed by a cat on his shoulder all morning at Furnado. Remy - hi, Remy! - was people-watching at the Perk, and Professor Vess was working on her notes for her first class during her shift at the Infinite Consortium.

And that's all we got for the first day of classes. So this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off and leaving you with Tamagotchi, by TIMMS. Bye y'all!

It was hot. So while class met at the beach, there were also umbrellas and coolers of water set up. You were doing summer right, kids. Just jumping straight into it.

"Welcome to probably the least class-y class you're going to have this term," Kitty greeted them. "We're going to do various beach things. Some sports, some lazing about.... Spoilers: there's going to be a Memorial Day beach party next week, tell your friends." Listen, when you had a beach class on a holiday, take advantage. "Today we're doing nothing. If you want to get in the water, get in the water. Otherwise you can just pick your favorite towel from a selection and hang out with a trash beach read, of which I also have a selection. Also, if anyone can't swim, you should let me know now."

Sairis was confused by his class, a little annoyed to still be in this strange place, and at loose ends. He was taking that all out on the common room by cooking.

Beans, because look, he had plenty of experience with them. With eggs and onions. He'd found a few spices around and gone based on taste rather than whatever they were called.

Hopefully if anyone else dropped by they liked marjoram and chili powder.

He'd spent some of his money on a loaf of bread to go with it, because even if kneading dough sounded cathartic, he hadn't wanted to wait until midnight to eat.

And there was tea, but it had gone cold. Which might not be an entirely bad thing.

First week of classes! Liliana was also excited for her first week of class. She was behind the counter, drawing up a list of some of the more ridiculous Dominarian historical incidents to cover.

It was a very, very, very long list. A target-rich environment, one might say.

There was a saddle in the window today, but she was already considering just bringing that home with her. The benefits of being a shopkeeper.

Hannibal looked at his "class" when they met at Portalocity.

Apparently this term would be a lot of dinner dates with him as a third wheel.

"Welcome to you both," he said, giving them a polite nod. "If you have any requests, please let me know. I thought I would begin with something I know you will appreciate."

He bowed them through the portal and onto a street in Tokyo. He led them around a corner and past a long line, explaining to the person at the door that they had reservations.

And then they were in Ginza Hachigou, a ramen restaurant. Look, it was the closest to Cup Noodle Hannibal was willing to get. There were six seats in the restaurant, which was nicely and minimally appointed, and the smells of cooking meat and onions wafted throughout.

"They have earned several Michelin stars here, and the owner and chef, Matsumura-san," Hannibal paused to give the man a friendly bow, "has an impeccable reputation."

Good morning everyone, and welcome to a new semester. And weirdly the squirrels still seem to be striking, or are at least extremely lazy on Sundays.

At the museum, Gregorith was apparently pondering raccoons, and Rey dealt with surprise candy everywhere at Stark's, and I'm going to ask that you keep that there.

And that's it, and I'm off to deal with a class that I don't have to write a weird syllabus for.

Remy had been away from the island again for a bit -- not turned into an opossum, thankfully. Just caught up in the superhero/thief nonsense of his home dimension again.

Back in the day of working at the Jean Grey School this sort of behavior was exactly what had gotten him fired. So he was just going to assume that the university here was not going to be expecting him to teach again.

Which was just fine with him. He hadn't really considered himself much of a teacher, anyway.

He hadn't been back to Midnight Manor yet, and while he was anxious to check on his cats, he was more anxious for some sweet, sweet caffeine first, so he stopped into the coffee shop and ordered something large and dark.

Then settled back in his seat by the door, soaking up the A/C and watching the foot traffic wander past.

It was so quiet here. He wasn't sure he'd get used to it, but it was a nice difference from the nonsense he kept running into back home.

Anakin and Ahsoka were in front of the Portalocity market with sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen for the class. Because safety first when trying not to die. "Are you sufficiently prepared for this first adventure?" Anakin asked, looking the class over. "Possibly."

"In any case, we'll be easing you into it." You know, for somewhat deranged Jedi standards of take it easy.

"Nothing will be trying to eat you today, which is more than generous," said the man with a lava river.

Ahsoka debated how reassuring pointing that there probably wouldn't be anything trying to eat them most weeks would actually be.

"We are going to Madagascar today," Anakin said while Ahsoka pondered. "It's that big island on the map near the continent of Africa. Put on your sunscreen, and your hats so we can find you."

The hats were various shades of highlighter green and orange.

It wasn't hard to guess who had chosen them.

He had an aesthetic, it was true. "Don't get lost. We'll see you at the final meeting point," Anakin said.

"Yep she sorta clambered up there when I took 'er out t' clean her cage."

"Isn't that the feral kitten you were trying to...I dunno, tame?"

"Uh...yeah actually." Somehow it hadn't registered with Caleb that he'd been perfectly fine handling her lately. She still didn't seem to be one for scritches but she'd been letting him pick her up, and today she'd climbed up his arm and settled on his shoulder.

"Have you heard about The Cat Distribution System?"
